Bravo to our Pope Francis and The Bee Editorial Board. It’s
not easy to change course from longstanding dogma or longstanding political
bias, but it is certainly happening.
As a Christian, I celebrate our ability to model God’s world
with science, and protect the health and beauty of the only world we have.
Let’s take on our man-made climate problems and discuss the possible solutions
in a manner that God will be proud of.

Hold on Pete...they don't want to discuss anything...as a matter of fact they uninvited those that disagree to their cult gathering...rethink supporting anything that the Catholic Church gets involved in.

Tell God to unruffle his feathers and compose himself. No one’s claiming to be able to control Earth’s climate, outside the con-trail conspiracy crowd and the odd geo-engineering enthusiast. Human release of CO2 that’s warming our climate is nothing like a controlled process. It’s more a case of millions of discrete acts of individual self-interest, and thus far, the rampant industrial scale extraction and burning of fossil hydrocarbon and the destruction of natural vegetation is utterly uncoordinated and patently out of control. It remains to be seen whether humanity is collectively capable of acting in its common interest and doing what both living popes and the world’s climatologists have urged. We may have the technical capability to reduce those emissions by 80 percent by 2050, but who knows if we’ve the will, and no one claims to know with certainty how cooked we may be already at 400 ppm today or what changes the almost inevitable near doubling from pre-industrial levels will have done before and if we can act to stem the tide.
